Filmed something? We pay for footage, and we pay again when it travels. Here is how it works, what we take, what we will not take, and what you get.

What we pay

Licence fee on acceptance, non-exclusive$50
Licence fee on acceptance, exclusive for ninety days$150
Bonus at 10,000 views$50
Bonus at 100,000 views$250
Bonus at 1,000,000 views$1,000

Australian dollars. Views are counted on NOFUF’s own accounts, thirty days after we post, added across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X. Bonuses stack: a clip that passes a million views earns every tier below it as well.

How it works

  1. Send the link and the details below. Keep the original file on your phone.
  2. We check it: where, when, whether it is what it looks like, and whether we can publish it.
  3. If we accept it, you get the licence fee by bank transfer or PayPal within seven days, and we post it with your credit or without, as you choose.
  4. Thirty days after it goes up we count the views and pay whatever tiers it reached.

What we take

Footage you filmed yourself, or that your own dashcam or security camera recorded, of something that happened in a public place or on your own property: a crime, an arrest, a police operation, a crash, a fire, a protest, a public figure in public. Phone footage is fine. Vertical is fine. Shaky is fine. What matters is that it is real, that it is yours, and that it shows what you say it shows.

What we will not take, at any price

  • Anything filmed by trespassing, or by recording a private conversation, which is an offence in every Australian state.
  • Anything filmed inside a home, a school, a hospital, a courtroom or a toilet without the consent of the people in it.
  • Anything involving a child as a victim or a suspect where the child can be identified, or anything that would identify a victim of a sexual offence.
  • Anything staged, provoked or re-enacted. If you set it up, we do not want it, and paying for it would make us part of it.
  • Anything where you put yourself or anyone else in danger to get the shot. We would rather have no clip than a clip and a funeral.
  • Anything you have already sold or given to another outlet, unless you tell us and we agree.

If the footage is evidence of a crime, we will tell you that police may want it, and we will not stand between you and them. We will not pay for footage that has been withheld from police to get a better price.

Do not send us any of this

Some of it is an offence for us to possess the moment it arrives. The rest we cannot lawfully publish. Any of it is deleted unread and, where the law requires, reported.

  • Child abuse material.Any image, video or text showing a person under 18 in a sexual context, or being abused or tortured, in any form, including drawings and AI images. Possessing it is a Commonwealth and state offence, and it is the one category where simply receiving the file puts us in breach. Send it to the AFP or the ACCCE at accce.gov.au, not to us.
  • Intimate images and recordings shared without consent.Nude or sexual images or recordings of anyone, taken with or without their knowledge, sent on without their consent, including deepfakes. Filming a private act, upskirting and sharing such images are offences in every state and under the Online Safety Act. We will not hold them and we will not publish them, whoever is in them.
  • Recordings of private conversations.A conversation recorded without the consent of the people in it, whether by a phone left running, a bug or a hidden camera. Recording one is an offence under the surveillance devices laws, and in NSW knowingly possessing such a recording is an offence too. A conversation you were part of and recorded in a state where that is lawful is a different case; tell us where and how it was made.
  • Footage of killing, torture, rape or kidnapping made by or for the people doing it.The law calls this abhorrent violent material. A site that hosts it commits an offence if it does not remove it as soon as it knows. Bystander footage of a crime is not this; a perpetrator's own recording is.
  • Anything taken by breaking in, hacking or stealing.Files from a computer, phone or account you had no right to access, documents taken from premises you had no right to enter, and data bought from someone who did. Handling it exposes us and you to computer offence and receiving charges, and a public interest defence is narrow and uncertain.
  • Classified government material.Documents marked secret or top secret carry their own offences for anyone who holds them, with a journalism defence that is real but has to be argued. If you have one, do not send it through the form. Email first and we will take advice before anything moves.
  • Anything under a suppression or non-publication order.Material a court has ordered not to be published, including the identity of a person the order protects. We can lawfully hold it; we cannot publish it, and we will not pay for it.

The licence

You keep the copyright. When we accept a clip you give NOFUF a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to publish it on nofuf.com and on our social accounts, to edit it for length, to add our graphics and captions over it, and to include it in later stories. If you want an exclusive licence, which pays the higher rate, you agree not to give it to any other outlet for ninety days. We credit you by name or handle unless you ask us not to. We never say where a clip came from if you ask us not to.

Money

We pay by bank transfer to an Australian account or by PayPal. We do not pay in cryptocurrency, in cash or through third parties. Payments over the tax-free threshold are income; if you are not registered for an ABN we ask you to sign a statement by a supplier, which is a one-line form, so that we do not have to withhold tax. We report what the law requires us to report.

Corrections

If a clip turns out not to be what it was represented as, we take it down, say so on the corrections page, and recover the fee.
