What this site collects, which is very little, and what we do with it.

Who we are

NOFUF is an independent Australian news and investigations site published from Victoria. In this policy, “we” means the publisher of nofuf.com. You can reach us at editor@nofuf.com.

What we collect when you read

Nothing that identifies you. This site runs no analytics scripts, no advertising trackers, no social media pixels and no third-party cookies. We sell advertising, but we sell it by position rather than by audience: an advertiser buys a slot on a page, not access to you, and nothing about your visit is passed to them. Our hosting provider, Vercel, keeps ordinary connection logs, being your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time, for a short period to run and secure the service. We do not use those logs to identify readers.

The video in the advertising banner is served by Mux with cookies and tracking switched off. If your browser reports a slow or metered connection, a still image is shown instead of the video.

What we collect when you subscribe or log in

Subscribing is free and it is the one place we ask for something. If you give us an email address, it goes to SendGrid, which runs our mailing list and sends the email on our behalf. SendGrid is an American company and your address is stored on its servers, which means it leaves Australia. That is the only overseas disclosure this site makes. We use the address to email you when we publish, and for nothing else. We do not sell it, rent it, trade it or hand it to an advertiser, ever. Every email carries a way to get off the list, and you can also write to us and we will remove you. The site sets a cookie on your device so the sign-up stops asking once you have subscribed.

What we collect when you send a tip

The tip-off form sends what you type by email to the editor and stores nothing on this site. If you choose to send anonymously, the form has no name or contact field and sends none. If you give a way to reach you, we use it only to check what you sent and to tell you what we do with it. We do not pass tips, documents or contact details to anyone outside the editorial team unless the law compels us, and we will resist compulsion where the law allows. Sensitive material is best sent from a personal device to tips@nofuf.com.

What we collect when you enquire about advertising

The booking form sends your company, contact and the position you want by email to the editor. We keep that correspondence for as long as the arrangement runs and for our records afterwards.

Journalism

Information we gather in the course of journalism, including documents, correspondence and material about the people we report on, is handled under our editorial standards, which are published on the About page, rather than under this policy. Australian privacy law recognises that distinction. We publish what the record shows and we put every serious allegation to the person concerned before we publish.

Cookies

A handful, all of them ours, all of them listed on the cookies page with what each one does and how long it lasts. No third-party cookies. You are asked once what you will accept, only one category cannot be switched off because without it the site cannot do what you asked, and you can change your answer at any time from the link in the footer.

Links

Stories link to source documents on other sites: court lists, regulators, registers, company websites. Those sites have their own policies, and some, including government registers, log visits. We link so you can check our work; how those sites treat you is up to them.

Children

This site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 15. If you believe a child has subscribed, write to us and we will delete the address.

Security, and what happens if it goes wrong

The site is served over HTTPS. The subscriber list sits with SendGrid behind its access controls; the tip-off form stores nothing here at all, which is the strongest protection available for it. If a breach happens that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Privacy Act requires.

Your rights

Ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to editor@nofuf.com. We answer within thirty days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes are noted on the corrections page.
